MVP development for startups

A first version real users can try, built from a written spec and tested before launch.

Start a conversation

Most first versions fail for a plain reason: they try to do too much. We start by writing down the one job the product must do, and we build only that.

We have taken our own ideas from a blank page to live apps several times. You get the same process, and code that is ready for the next engineer.

01Deliverables

What you get

  • A written spec that cuts the idea down to one core job
  • A working app on web, Android or both
  • Sign-in, payments and analytics where the product needs them
  • Automated tests and a release checklist
  • A deployed backend with error monitoring
  • A handover document: how to run, change and ship it

02Process

How we work

One loop for our products and for client work. Every step is written down.

  1. Specify

We write down who it is for, the one job it does, and what is left out of version one.

  2. Plan

The spec becomes small tasks, each with its own tests.

  3. Build and review

Each task is built test-first and checked against the spec by a separate reviewer.

  4. Verify

We run the app end to end on real devices and browsers before you launch.

04FAQ

Questions

What is MVP development?
Building the smallest version of a product that real users can try. The goal is to learn whether the idea works before you spend on the full build.
What can you build an MVP on?
Web and Android, usually from one React Native codebase, with a Python backend on AWS. We also build native Android in Kotlin when the product needs it.
Do we own the code?
Yes. The code, the spec and the accounts are yours. The handover document is written so another engineer can take over.
Have you launched products yourselves?
Yes. Cabin, QuesMo and Karma are live, RiseRole is in beta and Dukaanly is in development. All were built the same way.
